Default Facelift & scars?

I had a "mini" or "mid" facelift 2 years ago, I am hispanic, so I do keloid, but my secret was to keep the scar clean at all times, I was cleaning it up morning and night with poroxaide and a Q-tip and now you can not see the scars at all, and I wear my hear up all the time

Keloids can happen to anyone, also, you are going to have scars in front of your ears if you have a facelift, period. No way around it.

Sorry Isis, but I absolutely disagree. NO GOOD FACELIFT has scars in front of the ears. It's old technology. I had my face lift a year ago and have NEVER had scars in front of my ears, so if someone tells you that they are full of it. The best surgeons sew the area in front of the ears to the tragus (that little "button" that's at the front of your ear) and the stitching should be absolutely invisible when they are done.

NO good surgeon leaves scars in front of the ears. If you go to a surgeon and his facelift photos show scars in front of the ears then go to another one who knows how to do a facelift. Front ear scars went out 20 years ago!

I have to disagree; YOU are badly mistaken! If you happen to visit the many other PS forums on the internet you will see that they are "alive and well" and still done quite often! Lots of Drs. still perform them, it's a matter of personal preference. They certainly did not go out 20 years ago.

In fact, one forum I know of have several Drs. who post there who acknowlege this. A good surgeon knows how to do this where the scars are not noticeable. Mine aren't at all.

In fact, many, many women, (and men) who've had the incision behind the tragus, have the tell-tale plastic surgery looking tragus that is very noticable, shaped very oddly. If you don't believe me, look at many before and after photos of face lifts. In face, one surgeon commented that he could tell if a woman had a face lift a mile off simply by looking at her tragus.

Edited: I just re-read your post: I simply meant the the scar WOULD be there, I did not mean it would be noticeable. A good surgeon should not leave a noticeable scar, unless a woman has problems that is the fault of no one.

Did you mean that the incision should ALWAYS be behind the tragus? If so my statement still stands.

Simply put, they are done 2 ways; in front of and behind the tragus. Both are acceptable.

Isis, you rushed to conclusion here.

A good plastic surgeon never leaves a vertical scar in front of the ear. That was my point. A better plastic surgeon never leaves behind a badly formed tragus. The scar isn't in front of OR behind the tragus in an excellent facelift result. It's actually sewn on the rim of the tragus and if done expertly, you don't see it after healing occurs. A superior plastic surgeon doesn't leave a single scar that you can see, even with your hair up. I think we agree on that point.

I work in this business and I live with this daily and I hear all the stories from the surgeons about who does it that way, who does it this way, why they do it a particular way, etc etc. Yes, there ARE surgeons who leave a scar you can see. Who wants that surgeon? No one I know. And I can tell if someone has had a facelift with a suture line that stopped in front of the ears. You can see the line even after healing because without a facelift people don't have a line there.

If someone is OK with a vertical line in front of their ears that says to the whole world, "Hey I had a facelift' there are certainly surgeons out there who do it that way. Personally, I wouldn't go to them. I don't want anyone to know I had one, and most people do not want others to look at their face and know they had plastic. I want a surgeon who knows how to suture so nobody can tell.

And the surgeon was correct: you CAN tell a mile away if someone has a less than perfect result. LOTS of famous people have scars you can see, which is a shame since they can afford to hire any surgeon they want. The point I was trying to make is that people should get a surgeon who is expert enough that one obtains as perfect a result as they can. Is this possible? It is if you have the right surgeon. A good surgeon knows what a tragus is supposed to be shaped like and doesn't finish the job just because the next patient is waiting. He or she finishes the job when the tragus looks RIGHT. There are surgeons who are in a big hurry, but why go to them?

Facelifts are a specialty surgery. A doc who does great breasts may or may not also do great facelifts. If the famous docs were the only ones doing great facelifts, why do so many actors and actresses have poor results? Because they go to someone who is famous who may or may not take the time to really create the best result possible.

ISIS, you are correct about the front of ear scar IN MEN! I was just talking to one of my surgeons about face lifts for men and he mentioned that of course the men often have the vertical scar in front of the ear because otherwise they'd be shaving their tragus! hahahahaha

I can't believe I didn't think of that. DOH as Homer says!

annecohen, can you tell me the name of your surgeon - he sounds good. or any others who do the mid-face lift well (without the noticeable scars). Has anyone heard about or seen dr. abergel? i saw him on television. he was doing minimally invasive procedures on a women who wanted to look a little better but not go under the knife big time. i think it may have been done endoscopically (brow lift, cheek lift - i forget about her eyes). She was only out of work a few days. of course, she was only forty (i'm fifty) so it may not be an option for me.

Hi Annecohen and Happy Girl. I would like to know more about the surgeons you are talking about. I seen that show Family Jewels with Shannon Tweed who was an amazing playmate. I thought about flying out to see Dr. Ryan. I figure if she used him he must be worth it. Ya know. The doctors all know who the best are however they all refer to their friends. I don't want just anyone. I want the best. I'm 42 and I want a brow and mid face lift and also possible a filler. Any advice?

Hi Beth,
I just happened to see the doctor I was talking about on the plastic surgery channel. The woman featured was happy and she looked good (of course its hard to really tell on tv). What appealed to me was the short down time and minimal procedure. I haven't heard from anyone in the forums about him though. His website is doctorabergel.com. Good luck ..... Happygirl.
