Thanks martinigirl for the tip about having the LDM before lipo. Hadn't thought of that, but it makes a lot of sense. Have the lymph system in perfect order before a major assault to the body! This is a really useful thread. I will post again after I talk to "Harmony" (appropos name...) about her qualifications and recommendations.

Default Info. on the Lymph System

Well, it's been quite a few days and "Harmony" never returned my call.

Today I found an interesting website called "LymphNotes" which has several articles of interest to people who are recovering from lipo. One article is:

http://www.lymphnotes.com/article.php/id/313/

and there is a menu at the top of that page with links to other articles of interest.

Default Massage Envy

I also have a Massage Envy near where I live. I was hoping to use them for my post op massages, and even called before my surgery to make sure they had someone qualified in LDM. But when I actually showed up 10 days post-op for my first appt, they refused to treat me. It seemed to be a liability concern on their part rather than a belief that waiting longer would be better for me. The therapist told me that if she still had her own office, she would do it w/o hesitation, but that the owner would fire her if she did it at Massage Envy.

I had lymphatic drainage massage at the Fem Centre here in Fort Worth & it is very gentle. It is so gentle you don't believe it can do anything at all. I only had a few sessions & then the therapist quit working at the clinic, so don't know if it would've done anything or no.

Default Phoenix LDM Massage Report

Thanks to this excellent thread I knew LDM would be very helpful after smartlipo. I researched and only could come up with two names of LDM therapists within 25 miles of my home. In the 5th largest city in the nation, that surprised me. One of them no longer is at the given phone number (from the VodderSchool website). The other seemed very knowledgeable on the phone, so I told her when I got to the right time post-op, I would make appointments with her.

Today is post-op day #12 and I felt I would be ready for LDM. To make a long story short, the therapist was great, the massage was very gentle with an extremely light touch, and I felt great as soon as I got off the table.

For Phoenix area patients, I highly recommend Lisa Boggs, her office is on 24th Avenue and Peoria, in the Metro Center area. The name of her business is “Heaven’s Angels Therapeutic Massage” and the phone number is (602) 509-0396. She charges $45 per hour, an incredible bargain. She is a former massage school instructor and teaches LDM.

She spent a lot of time with me, explaining the process, and we chatted throughout the massage. I wore my garment, but told her I would remove the garment for the future massages. She taught me the main “pressure points” so that I can massage myself as needed. She could feel the lymph moving along (the vessels are very close to the surface of the skin) and twice told me she felt the main nodes “pop.” She said they were clogged and the massage unclogs them so the fluid can then move.

I was told to remain still on the table for 15 minutes after the massage was completed, to let the lymph system move the fluids. When you move around the system slows down, so remaining still afterwards is important. She said some people get nauseous or headaches from the massage, but I felt fine afterwards. Actually, I felt more energetic than since the day of the smartlipo. She told me to drink lots of water to flush my system, and I had to have a drink half-way through the massage due to thirst. She also told me it's normal to need to urinate during the massage, I guess it really moves fluids through the whole body.

She said most lipo clients get one massage per week for six weeks. I’m getting two this and next weeks, then one per week for several more weeks. She also said she just went through 9 sessions of Lipodissolve and had no results at all. She didn’t know the whole company went bankrupt and phoned them while I was sitting there. Yep, the number is no longer in service...

If you live in the greater Phoenix area, I do recommend this LDM therapist.

Talking Lymphatic Drainage

I had My smart lipo procedure at an office in Ft. lauderdale called Body Care with Dr. Rodger Stratt. Two weeks after my treatment I returned to the facility for my Lymphatic Drainage. Instead of a massage therapist doing the treatment, they use whats called Synergie, and Asthetic Massage System. After my treatment I felt great! I have had a lyphatic massage in the past by a massage therapist, and really this Synergie treatment was way better!!! I would reccomend this to anybody seeking lymphatic drainage

I won't be able to go there!

Default Lymphatic vs. Triactive

So it sounds like from reading this thread that lymphatic massage is probably better in breaking up the lumps than Triactive (by Cynosure)? I was quoted 15 sessions of Triactive at $85 a pop. I tried it a 3-1/2 weeks post op and it was too painful and I'm not really not in the position to spend that kind of money. From reading this thread it sounds like you gals are getting good results for lymphatic massage. I may look into this.

I couldn't afford the lymphatic massage therapists in the area, but found a physical therapist that is licensed for manual lymphatic draining. She's $85 per session, but is teaching me how to do the parts I can reach...and only expects it to take 4-6 sessions. Will let you know how it goes....
She recommends www.lymph.net as a resource.

Is it too late to start Lymphatic massage at 2 months post op? I still have some pretty big lumps on the sides of my hips - they are the size of a small fist.
