Hi,
Yes, Bariatric medicine relates to the surgical means to cause weight loss. There are many types of Bariatric Surgery available. There are standards that you need to be at in order to be a candidate (ie. BMI). The best way to research Bariatric medicine is to start by checking many of the resources on the web (including obesity forums). Also, talk to your PHP about his/her thoughts regarding Bariatric Surgery. Just remember, this is NOT a cosmetic procedure, rather a life-changing surgery for which you need to be prepared to make substantial commitment in your lifestyle related to diet and exercise post surgery. Good luck! |

By the way, this type of surgery is not usually covered by Insurance and there are many very experienced Bariatric Surgeons in Latin America, especially Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia and Guatemala. Depending on the type of procedure, the cost, including all of your travel related expenses, is usually 50% less than what you would pay for the procedure alone in the US(approx. $12,000 v $22,000).
Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck! |
