Question AFTER the tummy tuck and lypo...

I'd like to hear from those who have had a tummy tuck and lypo on different areas of the body. What I'd like to know is how you've kept your new shape or improved it.

I'm scheduled for abdominoplasty and lypo on Feb 11 and I am trying to create a plan to stick to so I don't ruin what I've paid for! lol

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Diane

Hi Diane,

I had that procedure done several years ago. I had wanted just to tighten some sagging skin and remove some of my stretch marks from pregnancy (from 20 years ago) but the doctor said I really needed a tummy tuck. At first it was a mini tuck but once in surgery he decided it should be a full one! (I was bad about my sit ups). Anyway, he didn't charge extra. He really stressed wearing the compression garment to get the best results. He said some doctors don't do it but it really helps with getting the good shape. I wore it even longer I think than was required - besides it felt better. (I was really sore for a week I think - but I'm a wimp when it comes to pain). So, that would be my most important advice - wear that compression belt constantly. I was very happy with my results. By the way, I didn't get any of those lumps people have been talking about - I was wondering if that is only from smart lipo - or if it happens from lipo only. Good luck!

P.S. I was just reading a thread about lipo and how to get smaller post surgery - one person mentioned that the people who seem the happiest with their results are those who wore their compression garment past the two month mark - which I'm sure I did also.

Thanks for the reply, Happygirl! I wonder if the compression garments can be replaced with over the counter compression garments after the first month or if I should just continue to wear the ones from the doctor...

Anyway, I am bad with sit-ups as well so I am looking forward (not really) to a long recovery period. Wish me luck.

Anyone else have 2 cents about maintaining your new body? Do you absolutely HAVE to start a new life with exercise and eating perfectly??

I think you could probably do that. Mine was a wide belt style ((one foot wide?) that had velcro and was adjustable. It could have been one of those back support things - it made my back feel better. It wasn't real thick but you would have seen it under tight knit clothes. I asked the nurse about post surgery exercise - she had had one - she said the doctor is doing your sit ups for you. I think it could be better with exercise - and we should be doing it anyway for general health - but it still looks pretty good. Maybe that's the difference between just having lipo alone in that area. Hope you get some more responses to your question. Good Luck!

I know exactly what belt-type support garment you're talking about. I used one with both of my c-sections.

It looks like my doctor is ordering me the full body down to the knee compression garment. (That should be real comfortable... )

I'm sure you're right about exercise for general health. I just didn't know if my skin would snap back on it's own after lypo or if I had to exercise it back..

Are you getting your thighs done too? It's funny you should mention C-sections -after my surgery I wondered how mothers can take care of their baby for the first few days - they would have to cut through the muscle to get to the baby right? And then sew it back? Same as a tuck it seems. I had regular delivery - that was bad enough

Yes, I'm getting my thighs, arms, neck and bra roll done as well as the tummy tuck. Alot of work at once. I'll be one sore puppy.

As for the c-sections, the first was the worst because I was nursing twins. The second was not as bad.

I'm not sure if they cut through the muscles or stretch them out of the way to get the baby out.
