First, I hope you're healing well from your ankle fracture. Thats never any fun at all.
As for the tummy tuck, it can make a profound improvement in the contour of your body. It all depends upon the current shape of your body and the amount of excess tissue. It does hurt after surgery, though each patient has a different experience. I would agree with Donna that the first few days are the toughest. To help my patients' early experience we are now offering pain pumps to reduce the initial discomfort. These are simple devices that infuse a small amount of local anesthesia into the area of surgery over time. This has been very helpful in reducing my patients pain in the early days. They are very helpful and super easy to use. You may want to check with your surgeon about using one of those devices (if you decide to have surgery). You also mention rashes. That leads me to believe you may have lost a lot of weight (possible after barriatric surgery) and now have significant excess skin. I take care of a LOT of patients after weight loss. The rashes and chronic discomfort does get much better after surgery generally speaking. I would recommend that you see a few board certified plastic surgeons (by the American Board of Plastic Surgery). You should get a sense of style and find one that you feel comfortable with and can communicate well. If you have specific questions please feel free to ask wither here in the public forum or in a private message. I wish you the best of health and happiness. And if you decide to have a tummy tuck, an easy and rapid recovery. I hope this info helps!
