bedrest for swelling after lower body lift

Anyone with swelling problems after lower body lift. I had lower body lift with mastopexy on7/17 and was told I could do as much as my pain would allow. As a nurse I've always felt the harder you push the better you do which has always held true for me but this time I quit all pain meds after 5 days and started walking went back to work in 3 weeks and within 1 1/2 weeks My flat abd. and back were gone and my legs were swollen. Saw my Dr. and I'm on complete compression garmets, lasix and bedrest.I have a 2nd surgery planned for my upper arms inner thighs and lower face but am worried about swelling. Any thoughts. By the way I think my surgeon did a great job, it's just the way my body is reacting.

I don't think your body is reacting abnormally. With this surgery, the motto is definitely NOT "no pain, no gain". I know a couple of surgeons who recommend 2-3 weeks of complete bed rest.

You need to be wearing a compression garment and compression stockings on your entire leg (to the crotch). You have just had a set-back.

Be gentle with yourself......this was a major surgery. What does your PS say about a second surgery relatively soon? It sounds as though you need to give yourself time to recover from this one. Don't dig too deep into your body's recuperative ability. (Isn't this what you would tell your patients?)
