A new study has revealed that obese patients who have a BMI between 32-35 kg/m2 can benefit from laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery. The National Institute of Health's (NIH) has set a criteria for all patients who wished to have laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery, need to have BMI equal to or above 35 kg/m2.
Study Findings
a. The study was conducted by a team of American and Brazilian plastic surgeons.
b. The study has revealed that the majority of the patients who have had BMI between 32-35 kg/m2 and who have undergone Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery had eased from problems such as diabetes, hypertension, lipid disorder, GERD, and sleep apnea.
