For those suffering with severe near-sightedness, LASIK surgery is not effective. There is another option called Visian ICL. Niraj Patel MD, FACS, of Pacific Medical Center, is performing this procedure, which involves implanting a soft lens made of collagen and polymer. Most patients will end up with 20/40 vision or better. And those suffering from severe Myopia, can hope for enough improvement to wear normal glasses. Unlike LASIK, if the patient’s vision changes, the old lens can be taken out and replaced. The procedure takes less than 20 minutes and results are immediate. Best suitable candidates for the procedure are people between age-group 21-45 years and nearsighted. The cost is $3,800 for each eye and is not covered by insurance.
