Liposuction is a way to eliminate unwanted fat in areas such as hips and thighs and is not a method for losing weight, according to Dr.Rod Rohrich, chairman of plastic surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center and senior author of the first study chronicling long-term results after liposuction. After undergoing Liposuction surgery patients are advised to pursue a healthy diet and exercise to maintain weight after surgery.

Patients who have liposuction obtain better outcomes if they follow a healthy diet and exercise program after surgery, rather than relying on the surgical procedure to help them lose weight. A study published in May issue of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery revealed that 80% of patients are happy with surgery, 33% told that they are exercising more and 86% said they would recommend liposuction to others.
