liposuction-pain.jpgThe pain associated after various plastic surgeries / medical procedures can be significantly reduced by the state-of-art virtual reality helmets, a computer game and determined predisposition of the patient. This type of distraction, as per research psychologists at Spain’s Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (UAB), reduces the need for dosage of sedatives. The technique of distraction has been well researched over time and successfully applied in clinical practice to lower pain associated with various medical procedures. Distraction techniques are based on the patient's limited capacity for attention, resulting in a reduction in the patient's attention to the stimulus and the reduction in the stimulus itself. An ideal distractor requires an optimum level of attention involving various senses, an active emotional involvement, and participation from the patient to compete with the signals of the harmful stimuli.
