plastic-surgery-2008.jpg Plastic Surgery 2008, the annual scientific meeting of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, will see many new and innovative research, technologies and procedures that range from perioral rejuvenation to new data that says it may be safe and effective to use fat injections to enhance breast reconstruction results. The meeting is from Oct. 31 to Nov. 5, 2008, at the McCormick Place West Convention Center in Chicago.

Highlights of the meeting
a. This meeting will be attended by more than 6,000 doctors, medical personnel and exhibitors in the field of plastic surgery.
b. It will showcase new research on a variety of invasive and non-invasive topics.
c. Some of the topics are patient satisfaction, outcomes in breast surgery, facial rejuvenation, body contouring after weight loss, a review of stem cell data and its potential to improve fat transfer and survival.
d. Emerging and sometimes controversial areas like fat injections for breast augmentation will be discussed.
e. The advances in treatment of severe facial injuries in soldiers injured in Iraq the fallout of this will be a highlight.
f. Keynote speaker Bob Woodward will discuss his new book and provide insight into the 2008 Presidential Election in the opening ceremony.
g. The opening ceremony will also feature the annual Patients of Courage: Triumph Over Adversity awards that honor inspirational reconstructive plastic surgery patients, who have overcome traumatic illness or injury.
h. From Nov 2 to Nov 4, the Exhibit Hall will showcase more than 350 companies, featuring plastic surgery products and devices including the latest breast implants, injectable wrinkle fighters, cosmetics/skin care and body contouring technologies.
i. This meeting will also cover new tips and tricks with injectables and dermal fillers, identification and assessment of psychiatric disorders in cosmetic surgery, the science of fat transfer and non-surgical rejuvenation.
