baby-bottle-tooth-decay.jpg By combining Digital Photography with Internet, researchers have developed a new, low cost method to screen childhood oral diseases. Children aged below 5 are known to have “Baby Bottle Tooth Decay”, due to the practice of putting a baby to bed with a bottle, which the baby sucks on for hours, is the prime cause of tooth decay. The sugary liquid flows over the baby's upper front teeth dissolving the enamel, and cause decay that can lead to infection and cavities.

To prevent baby bottle tooth decay, a specially designed digital camera is used to take photos of children’s teeth, which are electronically sent to pediatric dentists. The dentists identify the kids with tooth decay, thus enabling an early identification of cavities before they develop into a major problem.
