Re constructive surgeons now have the ability to develop custom-design acrylic implants, with the help of high-resolution computed tomography (CT) modeling. The acrylic implants, are used for re constructive surgeries where patients have defects in eye cavities, people with severe facial trauma or any other medical procedure. As per the report in issue of the Journal of Facial Plastic Surgery, this implants offer best cosmetic results, with tolerance for a long spell of time.

Procedure Highlights
a. Patients undergo a 3-dimensional high resolution CT scanning of the face and head.
b. The data obtained is used to develop a stone mold for preliminary analysis.
c. Using the stone mold a customized implant made of polymethyl methacrylate, (PMMA of otherwise called acrylic) is cast and surgically placed.
d. After the procedure, patients have not had any complications up to 4.3 years.
d. Over time study patients have shown gradual improvement in facial deformities, including eyelid function and facial symmetry.
