Most people are prone to reach for a pain killer at the first hint of a headache or a pain in the body. But this could be a very risky thing, according to health experts. Most pail relievers are easily available in the market and one does not need a prescription to purchase them. Most people forget that these are also real medicines and should not be abused. However, popping these pills can cause serious health damage and, at time, even lead to death. It goes without saying that a doctor should always be consulted first.
Study findings
a. Studies have shown that pain relievers can cause high blood pressure in both men and women.
b. Excessive use of pain relievers can lead to liver damage, gastrointestinal problems, kidney damage and even death.
c. If a symptom is not relieved then pain reliever dosage has to be under doctor's supervision.
d. Some of the major offenders are Ibuprofen found in Advil and Motrin, acetaminophen found in Tylenol and aspirin and naproxen.
e. According to research, acupuncture is a safer alternative to over-the-counter pain relievers.
