victoria-secret.jpg Women in Louisiana, Florida, New Jersey and New York have filed federal lawsuits against Victoria’s Secret and its parent company, Limited Brands Inc., of negligently designing undergarments and misrepresenting the safety of their products. These women claim that Victoria’s Secret bras have given them rashes, at times leading to scars, and other skin problems. A group of lawyers have come together to consolidate their cases against the lingerie chain and they filed their petition with the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation on April 8. 2009.

Highlights of the lawsuit
a. This petition is limited to 4 cases already pending in federal courts.
b. However, plaintiffs' lawyers have said that they are prepared to file more than 600 other cases once the panel rules on their bid to consolidate the litigation.
c. The petition has asked that the cases be heard together by a federal judge in Baton Rouge, La.
d. The Washington, D.C., panel didn't immediately act on the request.
e. The company has been accused of using formaldehyde resins in the bras.
f. A company spokesperson has said that Victoria Secret does not add formaldehyde to its bras.
g. The spokesperson also said that independent tests show the bras are formaldehyde-free or have only small traces of the chemical that wouldn't cause any health problems.
