black-cohosh-menopause.jpg The popular herb remedy, Black Cohosh used by women to overcome menopause problems has been found to be ineffective and useless. The study sponsored by National Institute on Aging and National Center for Complimentary and Alternative Medicine has made it clear that black cohosh is no better than placebo, to overcome symptoms of menopause.

Study Findings
a. The study has found that only estrogen has shown significant results in controlling menopausal problems in women.
b. The herb Black Cohosh sold in many pharmacy stores as an OTC product. Its available in pill or liquid form.
c. An anti depressant (Depomed Inc.) which is yet to be approved by the FDA has shown good results in controlling hot flashes.
d. The study was conducted in about 350 women and they were divided into 5 groups. Each group receiving black cohosh, an upgraded version of black cohosh, estrogen, multi-botanical + soy foods, estrogen and a placebo.
