The safety of Mesotherapy cellulite treatments, which involves multiple injections to burn fat is under scrutiny from health officials. A liver drug Phosphatidylcholine, used in mesotherapy is considered dangerous to healthy individuals. The drug has been banned in Brazil. FDA has now sanctioned the first study on the safety of Mesotherapy, being undertaken by The Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation. Cellulite is incurable, but there are treatments which can diminish its appearance. TriActive and VelaSmooth are latest approved noninvasive treatments for cellulite. Endermologie is the first FDA approved treatment for cellulite. Subcision, is a cellulite treatment developed by Brazilian dermatologist, where the results are are permanent, but there is risk of post-operative pain, bruising and infection.
