A new procedure called Endoscopic Radial Harvesting (ERAH) (for heart bypass patients) is gaining ground for its better cosmetic results after heart bypass surgery. The procedure unlike the previous one does not leave any scar on the arm after the surgery.
Procedure Highlights
a. For patients of coronary artery bypass grafting, the arteries from arm or leg are transplanted to substitute for clogged heart arteries and for this, radial artery in the arm is used, it is removed with an open harvest technique. This involves long cut in the arm, resulting in visible scar.
b. The new procedure (ERAH) for coronary artery bypass grafting removes this vein from the arm through an incision at the wrist small enough to be covered by a watchband.
d. Unofficially, surgeons refer to it as "the watchband incision".
