Botox has long been associated with anti-aging treatments. That it can help in the treatment of wrinkles has been a long established fact. It has also been used in the treatment of migraines and abnormal sweating. Now researchers have discovered that if the botulinum virus is injected to treat a wound it gives better results. Movement of facial muscles can lead to bad scars and botox temporarily paralyzes the muscles. Botox for facial scars is still being studied and doctors say that it works best within the first two to three months of the injury.
Study Findings
a. A study conducted by Mayo Clinic proved that there are less chances of a scar forming due to a facial wound if it is treated early with botox.
b. Botox weakens the surrounding muscles temporarily so that there is less pull on the wound during the healing period.
c. Botox can also help in removal of scars that were formed as long as 20 years earlier.
d. The number of treatment needed for scar removal depends on the severity of the scars.
e. One treatment costs about $500.
