Keloid is an overgrown scar, which may be the result of skin injuries like lacerations, burns or surgical incisions. It is also caused by tattoos, pimples, ear piercings and also small mechanical trauma. The problem is, keloid erased can re-grow or form again.
Treatment Options
a. Corticosteroid injections: These injections are given directly on the keloids. Requires 3-4 treatments to flatten the raised scar. It has success rate of 80-90%. .
b. Compression Therapy: In this therapy the scar is mechanically flattened by compressing the area.
c. Advanced Injectables—Bleomycin, Interferon or 5-fluorouracil drugs are very useful to eliminate keloids. This drugs work at cellular level, blocking the process of keloid tissue formation.
