Hispanic and Black women have long had one big complaint about makeup products. They find it really tough to find the right beauty product that is tailored just for their skin type and satisfies their needs. With US Asians, Blacks and Hispanics having a spending power of $1.9 trillion, there is a tremendous market out there just waiting to be tapped. Some cosmetic companies have started to bring out products like darker hued foundation, lipstick, hair dye and also creams and lotions that target the requirement of Hispanic and Black women.
Ethnicity factor and Make-up
a. According to an online survey conducted by NPD, 84 per cent Hispanic women between the ages of 18-64 used makeup in 2006.
b. But they find it extremely difficult to find the right product that is suitable for their skin.
c. Black women use perfumes in a big way.
d. 61 per cent of young Black women are likely to use make up products.
e. 71 per cent of Black women over the age of 55 years, use make up.
f. 20 per cent of Black women use anti-aging products.
g. Bare Escentuals, Fashion Fair, MAC, Shiseido, CoverGirl and Maybelline are favourites with women having darker skin tones.
h. Companies like CoverGirl and Revlon now use models of different skin tones to lure darker women.
i. Hispanic women are very fond of mascara, blush, eye liner and lipstick while
j. Black women prefer lip gloss and perfumes.
